Intermittent fasting is an eating pattern in which you decide the fasting period and eating period. There are alot of patterns to follow to reach to the goal. The good news is that you can eat whatever you want i.e. You consume high calorie food but in the decided eating period. As you can eat high calorie does not mean you can have burger and pizza but you can have your favourite food in a small quantity.
But fasting means starvation right?
Well, thats what most us know about fasting. Starvation is not having food to eat that leads to death. On the other hand fasting is having food but to control the mind to not to eat, it's a voluntary choice. Our ancestors did not had food dilvery at their door step, so at that time they had to save food in order to survive for the next day thus fasting is carried out from the time we were not even born. Fasting should be done by those want want to burn excess fats and to lose weight or it can be a healthy lifestyle for anyone.
It also helps spiritually like it improves concentration and focus as you get the grip, it will not be suffering but a lifestyle. You will be more self aware and and realise what are the bad habits.
So you can make your own pattern like if you are eating then its the eating period and when you are not its the fasting period. But it is proven that the eating period should end till evening because after that the carbohydrates gets store in the body which leads to excess fat and weight gain.
The most popular patterns is 16:8 in which the fasting period is for 16 hours and eating period is of 8 hours. You can have the eating window anywhere from morning to evening and then straight fasting period till morning.
The other one is Eat-Stop-Eat, where you fast for 24 hours straight and then eat again the whole day normally, this can be done twice or thrice a week.
To make it more easier another pattern is 5:2 in which you eat 5 days normally and for the next 2 days and you only have to consume 400-500 calories per day.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Our body runs on a fuel called glucose and when you fast, the body go in a keto state where fat is used as a energy source. Fasting will lead our body to use fats as the energy source because of which the body fat percentage will decrease.
When fasting insulin level will decrease which will help in burning fats. It will also help in losing belly fat and also decrease the waist circumference. The metabolism of the body will work fine with the help of intermittent fasting.
WHAT TO EAT?
As you can consume high calories in the eating period but try to consume healthy foods such as whole grains, meat, eggs, vegetables, fruits etc and avoid junk food as it will slow down the process and it will require more time to reach to your goal. Drink alot of water and stay hydrated as it will help in fat burning process.
